We are seeking a talented Pharmacoepidemiologist to join our team to support projects at the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). In this role, you will collaborate with clinical and data scientists, methodologists, and software engineers to develop and execute exemplar causal inference studies. You will work as a subject matter expert to create a real-world evidence (RWE) methods decision tree; support master protocol development; and support development of gold-standard guides and methodologies for conducting best practices causal inference research. You will: design, execute, and analyze studies using the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative (N3C) data; review and recommend strategies for selecting study designs to answer causal inference questions; help establish, and implement appropriate analytic value sets. 

The ideal candidate for the Pharmacoepidemiologist position is a highly skilled professional with a Ph.D. in Pharmacoepidemiology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Causal Inference or related field. This person has experience with electronic health record and/or claims data and a strong understanding of observational study principles including: missing data handling methods; temporal research questions (cross-sectional, longitudinal); causal contrast of interest (e.g., intent-to-treat, per-protocol); effect measure of interest (e.g., risk ratio, hazard ratio); and estimands (e.g., average treatment effect, average treatment effect in the treated) of interest. Your research experience includes one or more of the following: target trial emulation, sequential trial analysis, marginal structural models, longitudinal matching, G methods, or equivalent causal inference methods, realized in multiple primary-author publications. Fluency with coding languages and tools is expected (i.e. SQL, Python, and R). 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as SME for RWE causal inference studies. 

  • Design and execute studies with N3C EHR data considering the following: extent of missing data; missing data handling methods; temporal component of research studies (i.e. cross-sectional, longitudinal); the causal contrast of interest (e.g., intent-to-treat, per-protocol); the effect measure of interest (e.g., risk ratio, hazard ratio); and estimand (e.g., average treatment effect, average treatment effect in the treated) of interest. 

  • Review and recommend strategies for selecting individuals in clinical cohorts. 

  • Ensure the highest data quality and minimization of bias. 

  • Use tools and languages such as Python, R, SQL, and Spark. 

  • Help establish and implement appropriate analytic value sets. 

  • Collaboratively produce extensive documentation (i.e. through training material, research protocols, open data sources such as repositories and/or methodological and research papers). 

  • Work closely with data science and software developer teams to articulate technical methods and implement decision tool strategies. 

  • Extract and transform clinical data from clinical trial and observational studies. 

  • Participate in project meetings, provide updates on progress, challenges, and mitigation strategies. 

  • Actively engage in key relevant meetings and keep abreast of emerging best practices and methods. 

Qualifications 

The ideal candidate: 

Must have: 

  • Ph.D. in Pharmacoepidemiology, Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related field. 

  • Experience with the following: target trial emulation, sequential trial analysis, marginal structural models, longitudinal matching, G methods, or equivalent causal inference methods realized in at least 2 primary-author peer-reviewed publications, or equivalent. 

  • Ability to independently conduct statistical analysis with analytic software tools (e.g. Python, R, SQL, MatchIt/WeightIt, Matplotlib, Lifelines, SKLearn, GT-summary, statsmodels, Survey). 

  • Fluent in coding languages and tools (e.g. Python, R, SQL, Spark). 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. 

Nice to have: 

  • Experience with meta-analyses and/or systematic reviews. 

  • Expertise in best practices for statistical approaches, data wrangling and visualization. 

  • Knowledge of FAIR data principles. 

  • Clinical informatics experience.

The Information Security Compliance Engineer will support the NCATS Cybersecurity Services (CSS) team in implementing the NIST 800-53 security controls and assist the infrastructure, platform and application teams with technical security support. Oversee the security posture of NCATS systems, inventory, and applications. Provide Risk Management Framework (RMF) support. Assist in the remediation of Plan of action and miles stones (POA&M). Provide analysis and hands on support of day-to-day security activities, identify, and manage systems and applications security for cyber risks, prepare remediation plans, be able to effectively draft compliance documentation and SOPs. The Infosec Compliance Engineer will also use the expertise to manage security incident workflows and waivers. Provide technical design guidance to all the stakeholders to translate security and business requirements into technical designs; configure and validate secure complex systems; and help test security products and systems to detect security weakness. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage daily Cybersecurity Operational activities.
  • Proactively Manage Cybersecurity Operations projects and tasks and ensure on time delivery.
  • Take initiatives to identify, analyze and remediate weaknesses and present reports to the management.
  • Lead and mentor the NCATS CSS Cybersecurity Operations team with hands on security tools support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must Have hands on Linux/Unix experience and know how secure the systems. 
  • Understand how to implement security controls based on NIST 800-53. 
  • Must have hands on Linux/Unix administration experience and familiarity with Windows environments.
  • Ethical hacking experience and (CEH) familiarity a big plus.
  • Must have experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and tools.
  • Must be able to conduct and lead technical reviews and analysis with infrastructure and application teams.

The Senior Vulnerability Management Analyst will support the analysis of software/hardware vulnerabilities, impact, and lead the remediation efforts for the on premise and cloud environments. 

The Senior Vulnerability Management Analyst will use their expertise to manage complete vulnerability management operations by working with and providing guidance to all the stakeholders. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage and run the threat and vulnerability management operation effectively and mentor the junior team members.
  • Establish proactive threat and vulnerability monitoring, identification, assessment / analysis, validation, remediation, and reporting mechanism.
  • Be able to manage and administer threat and vulnerability management tools and have hands on working experience with Tenable Nessus, Netsparker, Trellix suite, Palo Alto, BigFix, Splunk etc.

  • Identify, analyze, and develop mitigation or remediation actions for system and network vulnerabilities. 
  • Prioritize identified vulnerabilities based upon severity, potential operational impact, and other factors for the client. Analyze issues affecting components with vendor provided fixes and contact the appropriate vendor for a defined and attainable solution. 
  • Provide notification of potential threats by tracking vulnerabilities and exploits, propagation of worms and viruses as they migrate throughout the client environment and globally. 
  • Monitor the progress of internal and external organizations to ensure operational requirements are fulfilled for audits and reviews.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for an Associate Director of Real-World Evidence, Pharmacoepidemiology to support projects at the NIH and to lead and inspire our RWE team. The successful applicant will be involved in designing, leading, and conducting RWE studies investigating drug safety and effectiveness and other observational studies in support of the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative (N3C), the All of Us Research Program, and other public health initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, team management, and strategic vision to drive the team’s success.  

 

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a strong background in pharmacoepidemiology and real-world evidence generation. This individual excels in managing and inspiring diverse teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, and aligning team goals with organizational objectives. They possess deep expertise in designing and interpreting real-world evidence studies using advanced statistical methods and various data sources, coupled with a thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines. They will have experience in the application of causal inference methods (IPTW, PSM, G-methods, etc…) and observation study designs (target trial emulation, self-controlled case series, test-negative design, etc…). The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and problem solver, adept at leveraging innovative approaches and new data technologies. They can oversee RWE projects start to finish and several first author or corresponding author publications in the field. They have excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and key external stakeholders. The candidate will have a deep understanding of the limitations of real-world data and various forms of bias and confounding that arise in observation studies (immortal time bias, confounding due to indication, etc…). They will work with clinicians, biostatisticians, and other stakeholders to identify research questions of significant public health importance. They will stay current with scientific and technical literature; stay informed about new approaches and methodologies, including participation in conferences, and/or workshops, publishing scientific papers, and independently locate and utilize scientific resources. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead and manage a team of epidemiologists, data scientists, and analysts in the design, execution, and interpretation of real-world evidence studies, including retrospective and prospective observational studies and registries. 

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the RWE team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and business objectives. 

  • Serve as an RWE subject matter expert (SME) to NCATS leadership. 

  • Help develop standards for the operationalization and fit-for-purpose use of AI/ML methods applied to Real-World Data (RWD). 

  • Produce exemplary material, including tools geared toward under-served communities and new learners, covering topics relevant to use of RWD including but not limited to treatment of missing data, case control selection, minimization of type I/II error and bias, prevention of model overfitting and poor generalization and approaches to Electronic Health Record (EHR) data limitations. 

  • Manage, schedule, and oversee outreach initiatives to underserved communities and extramural sites with limited bioinformatics capacities. 

  • Support investigations from the Office of the Director and N3C leadership requiring biostatistical and/or machine learning knowledge and domain expertise. Outputs of these may result in publications. 

  • Produce criteria to evaluate the incremental benefit of PPRL-linked datasets (i.e., improvements in the quality and/or scope of analyses of N3C data, reduction in data missingness, etc.). 

  • Participate in N3C Enclave Knowledge Store object and code template peer review, integration and unit testing, and validation. 

 

Qualifications 

 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD) in Epidemiology, Pharmacoepidemiology, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree with significant relevant experience will also be considered. 

  • At least 8 years of experience in pharmacoepidemiology, real-world evidence generation, or related fields within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. 

  • Proven track record of working with real world clinical data via first or corresponding author publications. 

  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of biostatistics (survival methods, bias, confounding, etc…) 

  • Demonstrable experience in causal inference methods. 

  • Fluent in Python, R, and SQL. 

  • Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques applied to RWD. 

  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, with experience leading and mentoring high-performing teams. 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to actively participate in technical discussions and follow up on action items. 

  • Sound judgment, positive attitude, and creative outlook required.
