Axle is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) located in Hamilton, MT.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives
Under this task order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to keeping glassware rooms clean and organized. – Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to ensuring proper operation and daily maintenance of all equipment (wash machine, oven, autoclave). – Ad-Hoc
- Work products, records and analytical results related to performing visual inspections and QA/QC testing. – Ad-Hoc
Work Details:

Segregate clean, process and return cleaned items to designated “pickup shelves” or to stock shelves. 1

Order and stock standard laboratory glassware and associated supplies. 2

Perform initial manual clean and rinse of lab items including glassware, plastic ware, containers, and stainless steel utensils. 3

Operate washing machines, drying ovens, and autoclaves.

Ensure adequate supplies for operation are kept on hand to maintain operation.

Properly prepare cleaned and/or sterilized glassware to ensure sterility for lab personnel (i.e. plug pipettes as appropriate, etc.).

Perform visual inspections for residues, cracks or other imperfections; Notify glasswash leader of inspection results.

Keep glassware leader updated on issues and problems pertaining to glassware procedures and needed maintenance and repairs to equipment.

Communicate with the lab staff on a daily basis to ensure their needs are being met.

Collect swab samples and operate Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzer to test cleaned glassware for residual product. Record results and enter data into Microsoft Excel data-base.

Maintain adequate levels of glassware items for laboratories.

Utilize AMBIS system to order supplies for glassware operation

Maintain detailed daily reports on items washed; transfer handwritten logs to excel spreadsheet(s) and provide monthly data to Federal Task Leader as requested.

Pick up dirty glassware from central Media Laboratory and from building 28 glassware collection room.

Assist with cleaning, organizing and other administrative tasks as directed by Media Laboratory personnel.

Ability to use laboratory instruments to precisely measure volume, mass and liquid flow rates.

Ability to prepare solutions to specified concentrations for preparing TOC and conductivity calibration standards. Must follow all facility established programs. This includes those related to safe handling procedures for government supplies, equipment, and materials as well as proper attire (i.e., protective gear, appropriate clothing and shoes).
