Responsibilities

  • Build scalable, reliable, and flexible web applications in TypeScript using NodeJS and Angular 13+
  • Design, implement, and/or use RESTful web services
  • Work with specialized open source applications (i.e., WEBKNOSSOS, Viv, Neuroglancer) and tooling (i.e., WebGL)
  • Implement modern and responsive UI for the web and variety of devices from detailed mockups
  • Participate in agile software development, prototyping, testing, and code reviews with a small team of developers

Qualifications

We are looking for a skilled and motivated senior software engineer with expertise in algorithm development, distributed systems, software design, and scientific workflow automation. You will be involved with developing scientific workflow software supporting our open-source molecular modeling, image analysis, and scientific data platform. The software will facilitate high throughput screening, drug discovery, and other molecular modeling efforts across the NIH. 

You will work with synthetic chemists, assay biologists, and other domain experts to translate their needs into requirements for the platform. You will participate in software design and documentation; stay current with technical literature; and stay informed about new approaches and technologies. You will also be involved in performing detailed code review and mentoring junior developers. 

You should have experience in developing Python and JavaScript applications using best practices such as type annotations, unit testing, etc. Experience with Typescript and REST APIs is required. Ideally you will have some experience dealing with distributed systems and issues such as synchronization & atomicity, network timeouts & polling loops, schedulers, retry mechanisms, message brokers, etc. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Co-lead the development and maintenance of a Common Workflow Language (CWL) based Domain-Specific Language compiler 

  • Co-lead the design and creation of tools and interfaces which enable the automation and execution of large-scale drug discovery workflows on our integrated computational platform 

  • Implement backend code generation targeting different compute environments (HPC cluster, AWS cluster) 

  • Develop driver libraries that interact with various job schedulers (Slurm, Argo, Airflow, etc…)  

  • Collaborate with biologists, computational chemists, clinicians, and core facility members to understand their experimental and technical goals and translate those goals into software design specifications 

  • Write clear, generalizable, organized code that is unit tested with proper documentation. 

  • Stay up to date with latest development in CWL standard and ecosystem

Qualifications: 

All candidates should have: 

  • Strong experience with Python and Javascript ecosystem and data models

  • Solid understanding of compiler design principles, including lexical analysis, parsing, semantic analysis, and code generation

The Instructional Designer & Developer will support the Education Team in designing high-quality, effective, professional-level, and visually-engaging educational assets. The successful applicant will work with the Education Team, internal Axle collaborators, and external subject matter experts to develop and implement curricula that align with the latest technology and best practices for delivery of courseware. Responsibilities

  • Create instructional materials, including e-learning modules, instructor-led training materials, multimedia content, and assessments that support learning objectives and program needs.

  • Create engaging media, technology and graphical designs to enhance the learning experience, including interactive pre-assessments, videos, infographics, and typography.

  • Work with the Director and the Training Solutions Architect to create comprehensive curricula, ensuring a logical and progressive flow of content, “big picture” planning, and evidence-based, modern pedagogical methods and technologies.

We are looking for an Associate Director of Real-World Evidence, Pharmacoepidemiology to support projects at the NIH and to lead and inspire our RWE team. The successful applicant will be involved in designing, leading, and conducting RWE studies investigating drug safety and effectiveness and other observational studies in support of the National Clinical Cohort Collaborative (N3C), the All of Us Research Program, and other public health initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership, team management, and strategic vision to drive the team’s success.  

 

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a strong background in pharmacoepidemiology and real-world evidence generation. This individual excels in managing and inspiring diverse teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture, and aligning team goals with organizational objectives. They possess deep expertise in designing and interpreting real-world evidence studies using advanced statistical methods and various data sources, coupled with a thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines. They will have experience in the application of causal inference methods (IPTW, PSM, G-methods, etc…) and observation study designs (target trial emulation, self-controlled case series, test-negative design, etc…). The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and problem solver, adept at leveraging innovative approaches and new data technologies. They can oversee RWE projects start to finish and several first author or corresponding author publications in the field. They have excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and key external stakeholders. The candidate will have a deep understanding of the limitations of real-world data and various forms of bias and confounding that arise in observation studies (immortal time bias, confounding due to indication, etc…). They will work with clinicians, biostatisticians, and other stakeholders to identify research questions of significant public health importance. They will stay current with scientific and technical literature; stay informed about new approaches and methodologies, including participation in conferences, and/or workshops, publishing scientific papers, and independently locate and utilize scientific resources. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead and manage a team of epidemiologists, data scientists, and analysts in the design, execution, and interpretation of real-world evidence studies, including retrospective and prospective observational studies and registries. 

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the RWE team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and business objectives. 

  • Serve as an RWE subject matter expert (SME) to NCATS leadership. 

  • Help develop standards for the operationalization and fit-for-purpose use of AI/ML methods applied to Real-World Data (RWD). 

  • Produce exemplary material, including tools geared toward under-served communities and new learners, covering topics relevant to use of RWD including but not limited to treatment of missing data, case control selection, minimization of type I/II error and bias, prevention of model overfitting and poor generalization and approaches to Electronic Health Record (EHR) data limitations. 

  • Manage, schedule, and oversee outreach initiatives to underserved communities and extramural sites with limited bioinformatics capacities. 

  • Support investigations from the Office of the Director and N3C leadership requiring biostatistical and/or machine learning knowledge and domain expertise. Outputs of these may result in publications. 

  • Produce criteria to evaluate the incremental benefit of PPRL-linked datasets (i.e., improvements in the quality and/or scope of analyses of N3C data, reduction in data missingness, etc.). 

  • Participate in N3C Enclave Knowledge Store object and code template peer review, integration and unit testing, and validation. 

 

Qualifications 

 

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD) in Epidemiology, Pharmacoepidemiology, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree with significant relevant experience will also be considered. 

  • At least 8 years of experience in pharmacoepidemiology, real-world evidence generation, or related fields within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. 

  • Proven track record of working with real world clinical data via first or corresponding author publications. 

  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of biostatistics (survival methods, bias, confounding, etc…) 

  • Demonstrable experience in causal inference methods. 

  • Fluent in Python, R, and SQL. 

  • Familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques applied to RWD.

As a Data Scientist with concentration in Data Quality for the All of Us Research Program, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing systems to ensure the accuracy, completeness, reliability and study-readiness of the Center for Linkage and Acquisition of Data (CLAD) platform. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, data engineers, data scientists, epidemiologists, and project managers to ensure the successful delivery of a scalable, secure, and efficient research platform.  Your role is key in providing up-front measures of database contents, missingness, variable quality and several other dimensions.  Creativity in your approach to digesting massive amounts of information and how you communicate those findings back to the CLAD community will be essential.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Produce criteria to evaluate improvements in the quality and scope of analyses of PPRL-linked Real World Data.

  • Design, implement, and maintain systems for checking and reporting on the quality of complex research databases, including assessment of missingness, validation of content and readiness for the application of statistical methods.

  • Perform end to end QA processes for research databases.

  • Maintain database dictionaries, schemas, diagrams and documentation.

  • Understand the business issues and data challenges of enterprise Real World databases used for observational research.

  • Participate in all aspects of business analysis, testing, including functional, regression, integration, load and system testing.

  • Review and edit requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed solutions.

  • Take the initiative to suggest new standards, implement new strategies, and take on special projects.

  • Investigate and resolve operational problems in conjunction with other engineering and technical personnel.

  • Provide technical support and advice to Leads, PIs, technical staff and other engineering groups.

  • Keep aware of developments and trends in best practices for data quality analysis. 

 

Qualifications:

  • MS in computer science, (bio)statistics, informatics or similar quantitative degree preferred.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, information management, or similar.

  • At least 5 years of experience in data analysis.

  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages, including Python, R and SQL.

  • Working knowledge of statistical methods and tests.

  • Familiar with large claims and EHR databases

  • Knowledge of PPRL databases

  • Proven track record of working with real world clinical data.

  • Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS, NDC, LOINC, SNOMED, etc.)

  • Exceptional analytical skills.

  • Advanced problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of best practices in data analysis.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
