Axle is seeking a Part-Time MRI Technologist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in Baltimore, MD.

Overview:
Join the cutting-edge research team at the National Institute on Drug Abuse as a Part-Time MRI Technologist in Baltimore, MD. It is expected to be 3 weeknights per week with flexibility on which nights those will be. In this role, you’ll support advanced neuroimaging studies exploring brain structure and function, contributing to high-impact clinical research. You’ll work on a Siemens MRI scanner conducting structural, functional, and spectroscopic imaging in human studies.
 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all research participants and visitors meet MRI safety screening and are free of metal and other contraindications 
  • Screen everyone entering the scanner room and maintain detailed MRI safety documentation
  • Collect and archive MRI data with a focus on consistency and secure storage 
  • Ensure MR imaging, behavioral, and physiological data collected is of the highest quality 
  • Operate the MRI control console, select proper sequences, and use peripheral hardware to acquire high-quality data
  • Prepare and position research participants, explain procedures, obtain consent, and monitor comfort and safety
  • Perform structural, functional MRI, and MR spectroscopy scans on humans and animals
  • Conduct research scanning procedures and contribute to technical improvements in pulse sequences and imaging protocols
  • Transfer and organize image data in secure digital systems; maintain accurate scan logs and records
  • Train staff and researchers on MR scanner use and MRI safety protocols
  • Assist in scheduling scan sessions and coordinating facility usage
  • Troubleshoot scanner performance issues and coordinate maintenance when needed
  • Collaborate with MR physicists and researchers to optimize imaging quality and workflow

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited MRI Technology program or equivalent in medical imaging or related field
  • Field of study: Medical Technologies, Health/Medical Professions, Medical Assisting Services
  • Proficient with MRI scanner operations (Siemens preferred)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools
  • Knowledge of fMRI, MR spectroscopy, and diffusion imaging is a plus

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
