Axle is seeking a Compound Management Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) located in Rockville, MD.

Responsibilities –
CoMa supports many NCATS scientists and their collaborators in their research by supplying and storing libraries of small molecules for high throughput screening and research. In addition, CoMa is developing capabilities for storing and supplying various biologics related libraries such as – proteins, antibodies, gRNA, and DNA encoded libraries (DEL). Primary responsibilities of the role include daily manual and automated preparation, tracking, shipping, and reformatting of an extensive inventory of small molecules including preparation of individual aliquots and dilution plates. 
CoMa’s work is achieved using several automated liquid handlers, acoustic dispensers, and automated storage systems. As a result, the Compound Management Scientist will need to perform routine maintenance, calibration, and provide support for these instruments, in addition to their other duties. Excellent record keeping skills such as accurate daily records of the procedures conducted, writing reports of the findings, stating methods and procedures, including any modifications employed to specimens and materials involved, and results are critical to the role.
 
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory automation, an excellent attitude for customer service, and most importantly, a willingness to learn and adapt. As NCATS has a multidisciplinary team of chemists, informatics scientists and biologists, it is essential that the candidate possesses excellent communications skills.
 
 
Qualifications –
  • The pace of work at NCATS requires individuals to possess a good work ethic and be able to work independently as well as with a group.
  • The successful candidate will have a BS with relevant experience; MS or PhD preferred.
  • Desired skills include experience in compound management using automated liquid handlers such as Biomek i7, Biomek FX, Perkin Elmer Janus, and Tecan EVO is preferred
  • Experience with acoustic dispensing instruments such as Beckman Echo 6XX series, Beckman Echo 525, or EDC Biosystems ATS-100 is preferred
  • Candidate should have experience in preparation and handling of small molecules in powder or solution forms
  • Experience with Agilent LC-MS and compound quality control is a plus
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Previous experience working with SQL and Oracle databases as well as programming in C#, java, or python is preferred but not expected.
  • NIH experience is preferred
  • Experience with preparation and handling of proteins, gRNA or DNA Encoded libraries (DEL) is a plus
