Overview

Axle is looking to add a driven, flexible, organized, and meticulous Scientist to our dynamic team. The Contractor(s) shall provide services in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program(VPP), Vaccine Research Center (VRC).

 

Technical Requirements:

  • Support the Vaccine Production Program’s Process Develop team and its sitewide applications by advancing automated processes and analyses. 

  • Independently advance automation projects by integrating efforts of developers and project scientists across design, optimization, implementation, and analysis stages. 

  • Independently research and critically evaluate new technologies and procedures to spur the adoption of automation in biopharmaceutical development workflows, including cell culture clarification, viral filtration, and multi-instrument integration. 

  • Collaboratively work with other automation specialists to build integrated, robust, high throughput purification and characterization procedures that improve efficiency, development tempo, and/or scientific rigor. 

  • Maintain and update digital collaboration platforms (e.g. GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Jupyter notebooks, Smartsheet, etc.) for one or more teams and/or projects. 

  • Support, and when necessary, directly drive lab digitalization and reproducible science initiatives, such as 21 CFR part 11 data archival compliance, adoption of electronic lab notebooks, and integration of digital data repositories. 

  • Independently manage the following administrative tasks: 

    • Coordination with project teams and other stakeholders in order to determine appropriate prioritization of procedures, including scheduling access to automation equipment and related resources.   

    • Coordinate with operations group to ensure equipment maintenance and/or maintenance scheduling, and maintain appropriate consumables inventory.  o   

    • Perform end-user training, including writing of training documentation. 

    • Write and review technical protocols, reports, and SOPs.   

  • Compile data, create effective visualizations, and generate summaries to communicate relevant findings across a variety of meeting formats. 

  • Support lab operations such as inventory supply, organization, and waste tracking. 

  • Positively contribute to the workplace environment by maintaining a professional demeanor and by voicing concerns to appropriate management levels and HR staff. 

 

Specific Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or other life science related discipline. 

  • Minimum of five years’ experience working on developing biopharmaceuticals.   

  • Expertise with robotic bioprocessing systems and control software, experience with Tecan EVOWare and/or FluentControl is preferred. 

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks. 

  • Experience managing project-level team efforts by providing both attainable goals and actionable feedback.

Salary Range
$100,000$110,000 USD
