Axle is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) located in Bethesda, MD.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives

The contractor shall oversee the migration and harmonization of clinical data. The role necessitates expertise in bioinformatics, data science, statistics, and database management to ensure the successful integration and analyses of clinical datasets.

 

Deliverables:

 

  • Assess the current state of the clinical data – Ad-Hoc
  • Identify discrepancies and variations in data formats across different datasets. – Ad- Hoc
  • Apply bioinformatics tools and techniques to analyze clinical datasets. – Ad-Hoc
  • Utilize machine learning and data mining techniques to uncover patterns and insights in clinical data. – Ad-Hoc
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of all processes, methodologies, and protocols. – Ad-Hoc
  • Provide training on new database systems and data analysis tools to clinical and research staff. – Ad-Hoc

 

Work Details:

 

  • Perform computational analysis of and interpret results. 1 

  • Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety of bioinformatic and research projects. 2 
  • Maintain proper and detailed documentation of the analysis performed and report results at lab meetings.
  • Perform data processing and data analysis with existing computational and statistical methods. 4 
  • Work with staff on planning of experiments, and data analysis for internal and collaborative projects; use bioinformatics expertise to advise and help bench scientists on experimental design and troubleshooting. 5 

  • Provides programming and troubleshooting support to the Federal Government in the dissemination of research data. 

  • Performs computations on research data analysis. 

  • Works with staff on scientific programming and experimental design.  BVCSAQ

  • Records observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings. 

  • Provides statistical support / analysis on research data.

Minimum Education

Masters

Additional Qualifications:

 

Certifications & Licenses:

  • Ph.D. degree in a related discipline. 
  • Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

  • Neuroscience

  • MS Office Suite 

 

Skills:

  • Strong Communication Skills, both Oral and Written. 
  • Excellent Analytical, Organizational and Time Management Skills. 
  • Ability to learn how to use new software and quickly become expert in its use, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work independently. 
  • Strong Computational, Bioinformatics and Statistics Skills with a strong clinical interest, knowledge, and background.
