Position Overview
Axle is seeking a Software Engineer that will provide full-stack development support for NIH systems, including application development, database management, DevOps, and quality assurance. This role supports biomedical research platforms and enterprise systems critical to NIH operations.
This opportunity supports a blended team providing PMO leadership, IT engineering and sustainment, biomedical informatics and data science, as well as policy, process, communications, and training functions. The work enables both NIH basic research and the NIH clinical research enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain web-based and enterprise applications.
- Support DevOps pipelines, deployment processes, and cloud environments.
- Design and administer relational and non-relational databases.
- Conduct quality assurance testing and independent verification & validation (IV&V).
- Develop technical documentation and training materials.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support system enhancements.
Technologies May Include
- AWS, Python, Java, Ruby, Oracle, MongoDB, NoSQL, BPMN, and related tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years of experience.
- Experience in full-stack development and cloud-based environments.
- Strong database design and administration skills.
- Experience in federal IT environments preferred.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
Salary Range
$145,000 – $175,000 USD
