Axle is seeking a Research Nurse to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) located in Baltimore, MD.

Overall Position Summary and Objectives
Under this task order, the contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through performance of support services.
Deliverables:
- Work products and documents related to the assessment and evaluation of health- Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to implementing nursing tasks as indicated by research protocols. – Ad-Hoc
- Work products and documents related to acting as a nursing resource in providing continuous support for research team members.
- Work products and documents related to acting as an advocate for research participants, including troubleshooting and communication for any problems that arise during studies. – Ad-Hoc
Work Details:

Participate in direct patient care, in coordination with interdisciplinary team and specific team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research. 1

Utilize nursing process to assess, plan, perform and evaluate patient care for a full assignment of patients with various care needs. 2

Provide nursing care based on protocol requirements to varying patient populations including blood draws, EKG, point of care testing, medication administration and other nursing tasks. 3

Assess complex and sensitive health education needs in individual patient populations. 4

- Recruits and screens patients for inclusion in protocols and clinical trials.
- Provide information about the study to referring physicians, advocacy groups, NIH offices, and in response to inquiries from potential study participants.
- Act as an advocate for research patients.
- Performs assessments and physicals and collects medical histories.
- Administers protocol consents and documentation and monitors compliance.
- Document and file adverse event reports; perform follow-ups accordingly.

- Troubleshoot and communicate for any problems that arise during studies.
- Performs data input and management.
- Support the general implementation, tracking, data acquisition, collection and reporting of all elements of the protocols.
- Manage data through research databases to ensure accurate and reliable data entry.
- Document and file adverse event reports; perform follow-ups accordingly.
- Performs clinical data interpretation and evaluates and interprets protocol and clinical trial findings.
- Monitor activities pertaining to clinical protocols such as monitoring patient recruitment and retention, trial progress, and the need for extension or renewal of ongoing trials.
- Act as a nursing resource in providing continuous support for research team member.
- Participates in training and mentoring new staff.
- Act as a nursing resource in providing continuous support for research team member.

- Neurology, Psychiatry, Addiction, Research, Clinical Research setting with treatment experience.
- Phlebotomy
Skills:
- Strong Communication Skills, both Oral and Written.
